SLMG are launching a summer project to investigate new niche markets for natural Shetland Sheepskins. Shell STEP Student Logan Phillips is coordinating the project.

At the AGM on 28th March 2007, two new directors were elected to the SLMG Board. Laurence Odie from Yell and Addie Doull from Sullom were elected on the night and replace Aaron Sinclair and Bruce Jamieson. SLMG would like to thank Bruce and Aaron for their contributions over the past three years and welcome Addie and Laurence to the Group.

A crucial meeting between SLMG, Aberdeen University, NAFC and the Environmental Health Department is lined up for 10th May 2007 when the results of the microbiological study on wind dried mutton or 'Vivda' will be announced. SLMG have contracted Aberdeen Univeristy and the NAFC to conduct a detailed study on the product.

We are planning to arrange a slaughterman’s workshop at Laxfirth. The provisional date for this workshop is 6th June but this will be confirmed nearer the time. The workshop is aimed at any people interested in trying their hand at the slaughter line. We hope to have an OVS present who will be able to issue licenses on the day to those who demonstrate competency. If you are interested in this day course, please contact the SLMG office.
